Statuesque British comedian Ava Vidal is joining the line-up for Comedy Central Presents Martin Evans Live at Cape Town Comedy Club (Cape Town Comedy Club, 25 February 2016).

The 5’11” former prison guard and mother of two was born Ava Beverley Vidal in Lambeth, South London, and began her career in comedy with an appearance on BBC’s Urban Sketch Show, before gaining wider fame as part of E4‘s Kings of Comedy.  A TV and radio regular, Vidal has also been involved in numerous other BBC shows including The Last Laugh, The Sack Race and The Crouches, and  starred in the  Channel 4 documentary From the Top, a half-hour show which followed her comedy journey.   Other notable appearances include BBC Radio 4’s satirical panel show The News Quiz and BBC Two’s Mock the Week.Back in Cape Town for one night only, Comedy Central (DStv channel 122) promises a comedy heatwave with the latest edition of its long-running comedy franchise), headlined by Cape Town funnyman, Martin Evans.  Having captivated audiences in 18 countries, award-winning comedian Evans is an accomplished and revered comedian at the top of his comedy game. His accolades include over 800 performances, two Standard Bank Ovation Awards for his critically acclaimed series of one man shows, a slot at the inaugural Comedy Central International Comedy Festival in November 2015, and an infamous episode of “Come Dine with Me: SA, to name a few.

Also supporting Evans on the night will be Gino Fernandez, a well-respected and celebrated stand-up comedian on the Cape Town comedy circuit, Lungelo Ndlovu, a Chris Tucker impersonator turned renowned stand-up comedian, and Devin Gray, one of Cape Town’s youngest upcoming stand-up stars.

“We are delighted that Ava Vidal is rounding out our line-up at Comedy Central Presents, adding her unique comedy perspective to our brilliant season 3 line-up,” says Evert van der Veer, Head of Comedy Central, Africa.

This edition of “Comedy Central Presents…” also marks the kick off to Comedy Central’s 2016 “Grab the Mic” open mic contest, which affords amateur comedians the opportunity to show off their talent. Three wannabe comedians will showcase their skills before the audience picks the local heat winner, who will go on to compete for the national title in Johannesburg later this year.
