(Cape Town, 29 February 2016) The 7th annual Cape Town Carnival will explode onto the Green Point Fan Walk on Saturday, 12 March 2016 with a dazzling procession of floats, hip-shaking dancers, and foot-stomping bands. The event will radiate glitz and unity as hundreds of dancers, community performance groups, celebrities and dignitaries come together to celebrate. This year the theme is “street life” and is taking inspiration from the endless dynamics and energy of Cape Town’s streets.
Getting to the Cape Town Carnival with public transport will be easy as MyCiti will offer extra busses on each of the following routes in addition to the standard schedules.
- Three trips departing from the Cape Town Stadium station every hour to Cape Town Station – at 22:30, 23:30 and 00:30 please note the normal MyCiti charges with myconnect apply.
Spectators are encouraged to visit the MyCiti website at http://myciti.org.za/en/home/, for further details on the available public transport options.
Carnival-goers will have the freedom of the city streets from 15h00 and can enjoy the variety of food, crafts and special kids’ activities on offer along the Fan Walk. The streets will be closed for final preparations at 18h00before the magic begins with an explosion of fireworks at 19h00.
ROAD CLOSURES Residents affected by the road closures are kindly requested to make use of – and park their vehicles in – alternative roads and side streets while the Carnival is in full swing on the Fan Walk.
