Three decades on and South Africa’s ‘My Cousin’, Barry Hilton, continues to send worldwide audiences on an instant vacation where unmatchable, hilarious and extremely animated anecdotes are the order of the day. An originally unique and warm-hearted good guy who strives for success and never gives up, Barry has become a household headline name over the last 30 years. There is no slowing him down.
In May and July 2016, Barry will be taking his insanely, funny new show, Evolver, to theatres in South Africa and abroad. Sun International’s Wild Coast Sun host him on 12 May and he appears at the state-of-the-art Clapham Grand in London in July. Sun International’s Wild Coast Sun is special for Barry as this is the venue that launched Barry’s career 30 years ago. He performed there originally in a show called It’s a Scandal. While the audience will be roaring for laughter and asking for more, this show will be a poignant and nostalgic performance for Barry.April sees Barry hosting and MCing one night of the monthly Hermanus Comedy Nights. A new resident to the town of Hermanus, he will introduce three up and coming comedic acts, while still entertaining the crowd with Barry-infused narratives.
Since both Barry’s mother and brother lost their battle to cancer, he actively leads the fight against it and wholeheartedly supports the CANSA foundation. He will be performing at a CANSA breakfast fundraiser in Namibia in June.
No crowd is too big or small for this fun loving South African comedic icon. Most people can relate to his humour and charm because his content is never vulgar, malicious or mean; it’s always light-hearted, honest and funny. Even though he has been in the entertainment industry for all these years, Barry has remained humble and positive – and that is what his audiences appreciate the most.
· Barry has since received the Personality of the Year Award at the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards, won the Comics Choice Lifetime Achiever Award, was shortlisted alongside John Cleese for the Best Comedy Act in Dubai in 2013 and was the first South African to perform four shows at the prestigious Harrah’s Improv in Las Vegas. The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International has also named Barry Hilton a Paul Harris Fellow in appreciation for assisting in the better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world.
· He also performed at the Hong Kong International Comedy Festival and live shows in the UK, Swaziland and Mozambique. Another phenomenal achievement was performing an outstanding two-hour sold out performance at the iconic Sydney Opera House. Ex-pats and the Australian audience absolutely loved him. As well as these and all his other stand-up performances in South Africa and around the globe, Barry has also appeared in movies and television ads.
· Barry will also be performing at a comedy night and golf day in Mauritius on 22 and 23 April.
· Among his many talents, Barry is also an excellent corporate entertainer, motivational speaker and entrepreneur. He has successfully launched the ‘My Cousin’ online merchandise store which offers funky products, including his live performance DVDs and his famous ‘Nou Gaan Ons Braai’ clothing range, which is also now being stocked in Soviet stores nationally.
