CAPE TOWN. – The sensational form of Justin Ontong and Keegan Petersen, the towering presence of the world-class Kieron Pollard and the discovery of the all-round excellence of Jason Smith have been a timely boost for the Buildnat Cape Cobras ahead of the T20 Challenge.
The Cobras kick start their campaign on Saturday 12th November against the VKB Knights at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium.
The availability of the Caribbean based Pollard will add an enormous wealth of depth and experience to the Cobras’ middle-order and bowling line-up. His mentoring capabilities can also be a tonic and inspiration to new, emerging stars like Jason Smith and Dayyaan Galiem.
The main concern, which saw the Buildnat Cape Cobras firing blanks in the middle-period after the removal of the openers last season, has been removed.
Ontong and Petersen have shown encouraging form with the bat while Smith has given the Buildnat Cape Cobras’ all-round options. Galiem is another all-rounder who can offer the Cobras some hard-hitting options in the lower order.
Beuran Hendricks captured 28 wickets in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge which led to his introduction into the South African team for the ICC World Twenty20 in the 2014 season.
Dane Paterson was the leading wicket-taker for the Cobras’ T20-team last season.
