CAPE TOWN. – The Buildnat Cape Cobras have named one significant addition to their squad that looks equipped to break their winning drought in style at their iconic fortress at PPC Newlands when they meet the Warriors in a T20 Challenge clash on Friday.
Wayne Parnell, the Buildnat Cape Cobras’ player of the year in 2015/2106, is back in the squad for the match, which commences at 18:00. Parnell is likely to open the innings with either Richard Levi or Cebo Tshiki.
Parnell slammed 237 runs in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge last season and also featured prominently with the ball, taking eight wickets with 4-20 being his best match-haul.
His recall leaves the Cobras with a healthy conundrum.
Who moves down to number three, and who will feature at number four, five and six? It looks likely that Jason Smith will bat at three with Kieron Pollard slotting in at number four.
Whatever the order, the Cobras will rue their tentative approach in the business end of their innings against the Multiply Titans in which they allowed 12 dot balls to go by unpunished.Perhaps the old Lance Klusener-mantra of: Go Big or Go Home might be a more apt approach against the Eastern Cape-franchise when the two teams clash at PPC Newlands on Friday.
The Cobras possess enough fire-power with bat and ball to dismantle the Warriors and coast to an easy victory.
And in Parnell, Pollard, Richard Levi, Justin Ontong, Rory Kleinveldt and Dane Paterson, they also have leaders who can inspire or change the match in one devastating spell or fifteen balls of batting mayhem.
The Cobras squad is: Justin ONTONG (capt),Beuran Hendricks, Rory Kleinveldt, Richard Levi, George Linde, Aviwe Mgijima, Tshepo Moreki, Wayne Parnell, Dane Paterson, Keegan Petersen, Kieron Pollard, Nkululeko Serame, Jason Smith, Cebo Tshiki.
