Temporary road closures will be in place around the CBD to accommodate the switch-on of the festive lights this weekend. Read more below:
All roads will lead to the Grand Parade on Sunday 4 December 2016 for the much anticipated annual festive lights switch-on event. The event kicks-off with a free concert at 16:00 and will feature a line-up of top African artists that includes chart-topping hip-hop artist AKA and South Africa’s internationally acclaimed DJ, Black Coffee, as headline acts.
They will be joined by HiiiJackD, our very own home-grown talent who won the Festive Lights Challenge that ran on indi.com.

Motorists are advised to plan their trips accordingly. In addition, the following transport plan is in place to ensure that revellers are able to make their way home after the event ends at 22:00.
Additional trains will be provided and will depart as follows:
- Train 1 will depart from Cape Town Station at 23:30 on the Mitchells Plain line
- Train 2 will depart at 23:45 on the Cape Flats line
MyCiTi bus serviceThe MyCiTi bus Routes 102 and 103 will be diverted from 15:00 on Saturday 3 December 2016 until the end of services on Sunday 4 December 2016.
Routes 107 and 110 will be diverted from 15:00 until the end of services on Sunday 4 December 2016.
The Darling stop serving Routes 102 (Salt River Rail, Walmer Estate, Civic Centre) and 103 (Oranjezicht, Gardens, Civic Centre) will be closed from 15:00 on Saturday 3 December 2016 until the end of services on Sunday 4 December 2016. The Groote Kerk stop serving Route 107 (Civic Centre, Camps Bay) will be closed from 15:00 until the end of service on Sunday 4 December 2016.
As from 16:00 on 3 December to 23:30 on 4 December 2016, no parking will be allowed on Darling, Adderley, Lower Plein and Castle Streets, including the streets leading off Darling Street.
No parking will be allowed along Darling Street, in front of the City Hall, until 20:00 on Monday 5 December 2016.
