Ajax Cape Town have completed the signing of Isaac Nhlapo on a pre-contract from Platinum Stars. Nhlapo will officially join the Urban Warriors ahead of the 2017-18 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season.
The burly defender joined Dikwena in 2014 following three seasons at current National First Division (NFD) leaders Thanda Royal Zulu. The 26-year-old has played 39 games in all competitions for Stars, scoring once.
Nhlapo has been capped on one occasion by Bafana Bafana, playing 41 minutes in a friendly match against Ghana at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 11 October 2016.
Ajax Cape Town CEO Ari Efstathiou is excited with the capture of Nhlapo and is confident he will improve the Urban Warriors defensive line.
“Good centre-backs are extremely hard to find in South Africa and when someone of Isaac’s caliber becomes available on a free; it was it’s an easy decision,”
“It was one position that we wanted to strengthen in the January transfer window. It is unfortunate that we haven’t been able to bring him to the club for the second half of this season, but it’s great that we can start to strengthen strengthening the squad early for the 2017-18 season.
“After speaking to him, he seems raring to go and would love to join the club straight away,” Efstathiou concluded.
Everyone at Ajax Cape Town is looking forward to welcoming Nhlapo to Ikamva in the build-up to next season.
