New Saturday and Sunday morning breakfast show to launch in May on eNCA.
On May 6, eNCA introduces Weekend Wake Up, a weekend news and lifestyle show which airs from 7am to 10amevery Saturday and Sunday morning. The show will explore the week’s important news talking points along with sport, entertainment, lifestyle and family issues.
“It’s news, with a little more breathing room,” says eNCA Channel News Director Mapi Mhlangu. “There is a different energy on weekends. Weekend Wake Up is designed for those who want to stay informed – but in a more reflective and relaxed way.”
Well-known radio and television personality Ayanda-Allie Paine will host the show on both days, marking a happy return for Ayanda to the channel. “My return to eNCA is more of a homecoming,” says Ayanda. “Having started my television career on the channel and then venturing out onto other platforms, it seemed like a natural progression for me to go back to an environment filled with the kind of quality, integrity and professionalism to which I had grown accustomed.”
Ayanda says there has never been a better time to be involved in news journalism. “With Brexit, the recent US elections – and of course the tumultuous goings-on in South Africa – I hope to be counted among those who not only witness the news as it unfolds but also fearlessly and truthfully inform others who, like me, deserve to know more.”eNCA Channel News Director Mapi Mhlangu says Weekend Wake Up is a new development for the channel. “Our mandate is always to be news-driven, but the weekend Breakfast show has a little more room to fully explore important topics for the South African public. Ayanda brings the perfect balance for this show as she has a strong news instinct, but is also quite comfortable kicking back and exploring more feature-driven and lifestyle topics.”
Ayanda is excited about a more reflective news format, perfect for those of us who use the weekend to catch our breath but still stay informed. “I look forward to the fun and fascinating, therapeutic and thought-provoking mix of news, talking points and interviews on Saturday and Sunday mornings on Weekend Wake Up!”
Weekend Wake Up starts on Saturday 6 May 2017 at 7am on eNCA.
