18 April 2018
Today, 18 April 2018, the Western Cape Standing Committee on Local Government, will hold a public hearing into the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Bill, 2015, in Vredenburg.
Among others, the purpose of the Bill is to make provision for the recognition of the Khoi-San, to effect consequential amendments to other laws, while also consolidating and repealing the National House of Traditional Leaders Act 2009 and the Traditional Leadership and Governance Framework Act 2003.
It is vital that we recognise the first inhabitants of not only the Western Cape as its known today, but also the country. I call on the Khoi-San communities, which includes the Cape-Khoi, Griqua, Nama, Korana and San-people, and relevant stakeholders and entities, to not only avail themselves for the public hearing, but to also actively make written and oral submissions.
There will be opportunities for interviews and photographs.
Date: Wednesday, 18 April 2018
Time: 18:00 – 20:00
Venue: Louwville Hall, Piet-My-Vrou Street, Vredenburg
