On Monday night I attended the very first Inclusive City dialogue as part of the second phase of the Inclusive City Campaign which the City of Cape Town launched in 2015.
During this phase, the idea is for local councillors to initiate workshops with community leaders, where everyone can collectively grapple with racism. As leaders, we can never make the assumption that we have the solutions to all society’s problems. The input and ideas from everyday people often give the most meaningful insights and I was looking forward to hearing directly from the people in a local community. Continue reading
The City of Cape Town’s Naming Committee this morning, 9 March 2016, recommended a list of names for the newly built community residential apartments and complex in Langa to the City’s Executive Mayor, Patricia de Lille, for approval. Read more below:
The rental units were recently built on the corner of Bhunga Avenue and Ndabeni Street in Langa as part of the City’s hostel transformation programme. The families who are benefitting from this redress programme moved into their homes in December 2015.

The City of Cape Town reminds residents that due to hot weather, an extended billing period, and the Level 2 water restriction tariffs, many may notice a spike in their water bills this month. For an average domestic customer, the differences in price are as follows: Continue reading

An assessment has been made of the 20 housing units razed by the petrol bombing incidents and the vandalism of more than 100 units between 25 and 27 February 2016.
‘It is not certain when repairs will be effected, but it is estimated that the repairs to the units that can be repaired will take at least a month to complete.
‘The situation is incredibly frustrating and it must be borne in mind that these units have been earmarked for vulnerable beneficiaries who are flood victims displaced by past flooding and also persons who are perpetually affected by flooding as they reside in flood-prone areas. Continue reading
