LIVE IN SA

Johannesburg – Carnival City Casino, Big Top Arena 27th July 2018

Cape Town – GrandWest, Grand Arena 28th July 2018

Port Elizabeth – Boardwalk, ICC 4th August 2018

Marmalade Productions is proud to present Divas 2018 featuring international award-winning superwoman, Karyn White. Karyn will be supported by the cream of SA’s Divas. Unathi, Paxton Fielies and Sasha Lee Davids in JHB. Paxton, Sasha Lee with G&T and Rene Johnson in CT. Paxton, Sasha Lee and G&T in PE.

She possesses one of the most memorable, distinctive voices ever heard in popular music. She’s an accomplished singer/songwriter who etched herself into music history with her smash hit song, the female anthem, “Superwoman”. That song made international waves, selling over a million units, being certified Gold and named the Billboard R&B Song of the Year in 1989. She IS a super woman. She’s Karyn White.

Established in 2011, Karyn opened the doors with Karyn White Enterprises Inc. White released her long-awaited album “Carpe Diem” on her own label and distributed through Light Year/EMI.

Currently, White’s new movie and soundtrack, Gale &The Storm, is a story loosely based on Karyn’s life and manager Jay King, legendary music producer & founder of Grammy award winning group “Club Nouveau”. The movie’s synopsis revolves around a revolutionary music producer who links up with a legendary soul singer and tries to convince her to sing again. SATIN TO SEQUINS – MORE THAN A MINSTREL

The festive musical production Satin to Sequins – More than a Minstrel, directed by the award-winning Alistair Izobell, will light up the Baxter Concert Hall stage for three weeks only, from the 28th June 2018.

Written and produced by Oddball Concepts, the production aims to entertain audiences while hoping to de-stigmatise the perceptions and culture of the Cape Town minstrels. The stellar cast is made up of Carmen Maarman (Aunty Merle The Musical, District Six-The Musical), Carlo Daniels (Kat and the Kings, District Six Kanalla), Austin Rose, Tashreeq De Villiers, Shadley Schroeder and Ashtevahn Mintoor, accompanied by a live band.

Fictional character Mr Biggs and The Woodstock Darlings first entertained crowds in 2014 with a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to run a minstrel troupe.

This 2018 reworked version will also show the human side to the minstrel, so often misconstrued by many. After all, there is more to the guy in the satin suit – he also pays taxes and he also struggles with love and loyalty.

This musical spectacle brings audiences the festive season vibe in winter, with original songs performed by authentic, seasoned minstrels and musicians who are all well respected in their particular troupes.

Moeshfieka Botha, media commentator, watched it in 2014. “We want to belong. We want to know that those around us, understand us and our goals, and respect our love for the common cause. And when you watch SATIN TO SEQUINS you feel just that … because THE CAST FEELS IT, and therefore PORTRAYS it!”

We have 2 sets of tickets to give away in this competition to our faithful readers!

All you need to do to win these tickets is to answer the simple question below and if your name is drawn, you and a partner get to see the Marc Lottering show called Aunty Merle the Musical, at the renowned Baxter Theatre in Rondebosch in Cape Town :)

The tickets are for the show on Monday 11 December 2017, so make sure you’ll be available then.

You can enter as many times as you like.

Popular Comedian Marc Lottering’s most beloved character, Aunty Merle Abrahams from Belgravia Road in Athlone, sashays onto the stage in the musical-comedy AUNTY MERLE, THE MUSICAL.

High Drama unfolds as Merle’s daughter Abigail (Tarryn Lamb) announces her engagement to Alan (Stephen Jubber).  As Merle puts it: “he’s a good-looking white chap!”

But it’s never smooth-sailing in the world of Musicals.  Abigail’s twisted and corrupt ex, Denver Paulse, (Loukmaan Adams), who holds a dodgy top job with the SABC, is determined to get her back.  If not, he threatens to reveal a very dark secret which is bound to tear the lovers apart.

And what of Merle’s son Carl (Roberto Kyle), who spends so many hours with his Varsity friend Siya (Sizwesandile Mnisi). The Boys are obsessed with Beyonce. Merle’s neighbour Soraya Samsodien (Carmen Maarman) certainly has some thoughts of her own around this.

And then there’s Lydia Majola (Tankiso Mamabolo) from Khayelitsha.  She has been on a 20 year journey with Merle, employed as Merle’s Helper.  But how can Mrs Majola focus on cleaning a house when she has just discovered that her Husband’s a Blesser?  In addition, Mrs Majola’s feisty daughter Nambitha (Zandile Madliwa), fresh from Oxford University, has a venomous political apple to peel with Abigail.

Can Aunty Merle get everyone to live happily ever after, and still pull off the Wedding of the Year?

What was your last big race you competed in and how did you do?

I cycled my 8th Cape Epic this year with a friend of mine who has improved dramatically to finish 79th. It was great to have helped him achieve his goal of a top 80 finish.

Are you looking forward to Wine 2Whales and what is your desired outcome?

Ja, I always look forward to the W2W. I’ve been involved with every edition and it’s incredible to see how the race has grown from strength-to-strength since 2008.

Have you competed before in Wine 2Whales and what has been your best time?

Ja, I’ve ridden many W2Ws. My best result was in 2008 when I won it with Erik Kleinhans.

What’s your advice for someone entering this race for the first time?

Be sure to practice singletrack riding as the route encompasses many sections of trail. Buy a good pair of cycling shorts too – you won’t regret it!
