I know it has been a while since you have seen one of my posts up here. A lady often thinks she can be superwoman and juggle everything but life often throws us curve balls that forces us to simmer down and take things easy…so I hope everyone has had a fabulous festive season and that you are well on your way to achieving your New Year’s resolutions!
So I recently read an article in a magazine which I actually found quite useful because I for one did not realise how important serums are (yeah yeah – no judging!). I sure learnt something new and hope to get my hands on one of these very soon.
So, what is a serum?
Well, for those of you who do not know – a facial serum is a liquid or gel consistency and the major difference between a serum and a moisturiser is the fact that serums contain active ingredients and are absorbed into your skin when applied.
Are serums expensive?
Not all serums are expensive, they do however cost more than moisturisers. The ingredients in the serum is what makes it so expensive.
Why should we use serums?
The serum deeply penetrates your skin, therefore it works from the inside out. This makes it more effective than products that only work on the top layer of the skin. Serums are to be used if you have specific skin concerns, like if you want to reduce the appearance of scars, wrinkles or uneven skin tone. It can also be used on rough-textured skin or oily skin.
Find a serum that’s suitable for you! Continue reading
As you all probably know, it’s Halloween month and there’s always a party with this theme somewhere during the month of October that you probably get invited to.
If you are like me and are very last minute with these things – you are most likely uttering these words a few hours before: “so, what exactly are we going as?” … that is how high this occasion is on my list of priorities.
Whenever it swings around and slaps me in the face I’m never prepared. The shops are always sold out of anything that’s remotely scary and I am now left with my creativity to make my costume work. Fortunately, I always manage to come up with a costume on the 11th hour and depend on my makeup skills to make magic happen. So if like me, you’re a bit last minute, I’ve put together a list of looks that you’ll be able to pull together in time for the party, no extra purchases necessary…
Sugar skull: All you need is a small container of white face paint and a combination of lipsticks, eyeliners and eyeshadows to add in the pop of colour. The white face paint is probably something you won’t have laying around but you could create your own combination by mixing a white eyeshadow with the palest foundation you own. Continue reading
There’s clearly an obsession with learning everything about beauty and the volume of information can be quite daunting sometimes. Some important tips can often get lost along the way… Are you using the right primer? Are you using bronzer correctly? Is powder really necessary?
Once you see which mistakes you have been making, you’ll swear to never make them again – after all, your beauty reputation is on the line!
Please continue to see the most common makeup mistakes, even if you’re a professional, you are bound to pick up a new trick or two.
Not cleaning your makeup brushes…
We’ve all been guilty of this from time to time and I must confess that the time-consuming brush-cleaning process is my least favourite part of the job. Dirty brushes can make you break out really badly as the bacteria builds up and it also affects your makeup application as the colours are all mixed together making it harder to achieve the desired look. Many women approach their consultation with a makeup artist with little or no experience working with a MUA and I am sure that the process can feel quite overwhelming. What are you supposed to bring? Should you wear your own foundation? How do you know what to ask for? etc.
Luckily, like any professional, most artists will guide you through the process with much support – even more so if you confess to being new to the whole process (hey, we are nice people!). They want you to love your experience and to feel pampered and well taken care of.
But like any independent specialist, a MUA has a lot of overhead (as you know, makeup is not cheap and whatever you have at home is a fraction of what they have in their kit), most of which comes out of their pocket. They transport all of their supplies to your location, give you 110 percent dedication and creative expertise, painstakingly clean each tool and brush (or replenish their supplies) in order to keep their makeup kit ready for you and the next client. Not to mention, the years they’ve spent perfecting their trade.
In order to ensure you have a great experience and a good working relationship with the MUA you’ll be trusting your face to, here are some things to keep in mind when booking your makeup artist or preparing for your next consultation…

The wedding day is something most of us ladies dream of and plan from an early age. When the time actually arrives, a vast number of things have to be prepared and executed, one of them is of course choosing the perfect makeup for your big day.
I believe every bride should look like the best version of herself on her wedding day, you don’t want to look like a completely different person all-together. The key is however getting the skin looking perfectly glowing. Luminous skin looks ethereal, you however don’t want a strobe-light effect across your face on the photos.
Doing this requires several steps, check out the below for a natural bridal look that leaves your skin looking glowy…
PREP THE SKIN: Continue reading
It’s official, we bid farewell to sunny days and blue skies and it will be a while until we can see flowers poking up through the earth. In the meantime, we’re trapped beneath layers of clothes and boots – longing for the days where we can wear sandals and those pretty little summer dresses again.
We don’t have to let the cold weather cause chaos on our entire body though! This is where the importance of body scrubs comes in. Body scrubs are great for exfoliating as they eliminate the dead skin cells and nourish the new skin beneath, leaving your skin soft and glowing all over.
Below are just a few ideas for DIY scrubs you can make at home, instead of spending a ridiculous amount of money on them at the specialty shops. I know I will be making some of these this winter!
Sea Salt Scrub
To create a simple salt scrub, you basically just need coarse sea salt or Epsom salts, a carrier liquid (like an oil, glycerin or some honey) and a scent. Feel free to experiment with different oils, salts and essential oils to see which you like the most and which work best for your skin.
Citrus Morning Scrub
- 1 cup olive oil
- 1 cup sea salt
- 1 tablespoon lemon zest
- 2 drops grapefruit essential oil
Mix all the ingredients together and pour into a lidded jar. Wet your skin in the shower and gently massage the scrub all over yourself—preferably in gentle, circular motions—to exfoliate it. Rinse thoroughly, pat dry and moisturize if necessary. Continue reading
Some ladies just have to spend some more time priming and polishing in order to get the perfect look that they want. While every woman is beautiful in her own right, it is no secret that there are some who look like they spend much more time with their beauty routine than others. However, this does not mean that every beautiful woman in the world spends hours getting ready every morning.
Below are just some of my favourite hacks that you can use to help you to look like you spend hours getting ready…
Keep your lipstick off your teeth girl!
Lipstick on the teeth has plagued women for centuries. Nobody likes to smile and find out that they have just flashed the red lipstick on your teeth. There’s such a simple solution which I have personally been using for years now – simply wipe your lips from the inside out, apply your lipstick, stick your finger in your mouth and pull it out. Remember making those “popping” noises when you were a kid? This is the same thing. Your finger will wipe away the excess lipstick and leave your teeth shiny white. Continue reading
There’s literally a ton of different primers out there and they are all meant to smooth out the surface of your skin and fill in the pores, lines, cracks and wrinkles – which creates a smoother surface for makeup application. Primers also create a barrier which keeps the skin’s natural oils (sebum) from breaking down your foundation.
No need to stress though, although the primer creates a barrier, it is a breathable barrier where the air can still get through and your skin will not suffocate when you use a primer. However, it still keeps your skin separate from your makeup as well as prevents your foundation from oxidizing (when your foundation turns a few shades darker once applied to your face as it mixes with your sebum). Just remember, as long as you remove your makeup every night and cleans thoroughly, the primer will not clog your pores or cause breakouts.
Keen on using a primer? These are some of the benefits… Continue reading
I must admit that I haven’t been going to gym as often as I normally do, it seems the colder days have made me quite lazy. Summer bodies are however made in winter, so I will try and get back into the swing and keep my gym routine somewhat still in tune.
Below are some beauty products I think are absolute essentials to have in your gym bag – let us know what your favourites are!!!
- Something cute to put your amazing beauty products in of course.
- The perfect little bottles to fill up with your best shampoos, conditioner, hand sanitizers, etc. Not all products come in travel sizes and you shouldn’t compromise your routine due to the fact that the bottles are too big and heavy. Continue reading
