Saturdays at 6:05PM from 23 April

The highly anticipated Lip Sync Battle Africa will make its free-to-air premiere next Saturday, 23 April, at 6:05PMon The internationally acclaimed show, which features celebrities battling each other in a lip sync duel of popular songs, now has an African flavour for local audiences to enjoy.

The first episode features Club 808 host Boity Thulo taking on hip-hop star Cassper Nyovest. The second episode, which airs on 30 April, will be a battle of the radio DJ’s with Thando Thabethe against Lerato Kganyago. Upcoming episodes of the show will feature all types of African celebrities. Comedians, musicians, models and actors will battle each other every week to win the prestigious Lip Sync Battle Africa title belt. The show is hosted by the beautiful Pearl Thusi accompanied by her colourful commentator D’Banj. Vredendal High School and Camerata Tinta Barocca present the Matzikama Music Week

At the end of April, some of South Africa’s leading classical music artists will be performing world class music performances and teaching master classes in the heart of the Matzikama.

Vredendal High School, in collaboration with the Camerata Tinta Barocca Baroque Orchestra, presents the Matzikama Music Week from Monday, April 25 to Friday, April 29.

According to Michéle de Villiers, Head of Music at Vredendal High School, 700 students from ten schools have the chance to experience the music of the Camerata Tinta Barocca, led by orchestra director Erik Dippenaar. The school children will also be given the chance to play some of the instruments. Dippenaar is known as a leading harpsichord player and recently performed at the KKNK with Stefan Temmingh in the musical Corelli à la Mode, that was nominated for a Kanna Award. Continue reading

South Africa’s champion non-university club, Durbanville-Bellville, kicked off their Gold Cup title defence season in style on Saturday when they beat Brackenfell 39-13 in the opening match of the Western Province Super League.

Durbell, who capped a fairytale campaign to dethrone 2014 champions Rustenburg Impala 31-30 in last year’s national final – then known as the Community Cup – are guaranteed of their place in the inaugural Gold Cup, which kicks off in 150 days’ time with a televised opening match on 10 September.

If you hadn’t heard by now, 5FM is heading to Polokwane next month for the first ever Small Town Live Loud weekend! The station will be taking over the city for four days, 29 April – 2 May, with various activities including live broadcasts, parties, a concert and Youngblood5 CSi initiatives.

The weekend promises more than 96 hours of live broadcasts and non-stop parties and entertainment which involves all the stations’ on air presenters.

  • His friend Brok Neilson spotted ‘the girl of his dreams’ in the supermarket
  • The supermarket responded by saying he should ‘rice up and say hello’
  • Mr Neilson posted a photo of the girl shopping on Facebook, it went viral
  • People have slammed Mr Neilson on social media for being ‘creepy’
  • They also accused Woolworths of ‘enabling’ a culture of ‘male entitlement’

A man has sparked outrage on social media after asking Woolworths to help him find the ‘girl of his dreams’ who he saw buying mushrooms at the Q Super Centre store in Mermaid Waters, Queensland.

Blake Nicholls, 22 shared a post to the supermarket’s Facebook page on Monday on behalf of his friend Brok Neilson, who took a photo of a young woman choosing mushrooms in the store and labelled her the ‘girl of his dreams.’

Insurers today need a unified platform to provide better and faster customer service at a lower cost if they want to turn sceptical millennials into loyal customers, according to senior executives from analytics company Verint.

Such a platform will help streamline end-to-end processes by assisting insurance companies to manage their people, processes and improving the flow across the customer journey. Verint recently hosted a roundtable at the Operational Excellence in Financial Services & Banking Summit and from discussions it was clear that the industry needs to find new ways to engage Millennials in the industry, both as customers and as employees.

Fahiem Frizlar recently joined Bolton Footwear (Jordan & Co, Watson and Barker Shoes) as the Marketing Manager, tasked with building the Jordan & Co portfolio of brands. He has more than 14 years’ experience in the industry.

Says Frizlar: “My key focus areas will be to develop marketing strategies and plans, identify suitable media channels to advertise as well focus on building the brand in the digital space – a key focus area. Brands will include Bronx, Bronx Woman, Anton Fabi, Jordan Shoes and Olympic International Footwear for now.”

Born and raised in Lansdowne, Cape Town, Frizlar studied Brand and Account Management at AAA school of advertising and has been building brands in various industries. “I most recently looked after the RCS retail store card portfolio. Before that I was at Woolworths in their Menswear department, Ackermans in the Homeware and new store openings division, as well as Marketing Manager at Sports Illustrated magazine.
