The Springbok Sevens suffered a disappointing 21-14 defeat against England in the opening match of the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens on Friday and Blitzboks coach Neil Powell afterwards admitted his frustrations with the South African effort.
“We knew England would be a tough nut on the last match of the day as they always have massive support,” said Powell. “They came at us from the start and to be honest, we were caught napping. We are not happy with this start that is for sure.”
The South Africans were slow out of the blocks and conceded two early tries in the opening minutes of their pool B clash, with Phil Burgess and Dan Norton scoring off South African mistakes. Burgess shrugged off a tackle and from the following restart, Norton capitalised when the South Africans missed the ball from the kick-off. Continue reading
Protesters participating in the EFF march to the Civic Centre this afternoon, 8 April 2016, illegally occupied four 18-metre MyCiTi buses, forcing the drivers to transport them back to Dunoon. Read more below:
The conduct of some of the protesters participating in the EFF march to the Civic Centre this afternoon is unacceptable. A group of protesters prevented the MyCiTi buses from turning around at the Civic Centre station, delaying the service while law-abiding commuters in the station building were waiting in lengthy queues to board the buses to go home for the weekend.
Some of these protesters eventually forced their way onto four 18-metre buses, intimidating the bus drivers and demanding to be transported back to Dunoon. Continue reading
8 April 2016, Johannesburg – The gifted and alluring Cara Frew, is set to release her first EP, Come Close to Me, featuring tracks Dive, Closer, Skin Deep and Weightless, and will be available for download on iTunes on the 22nd of April 2016.
Cara worked on this four-track EP in Los Angeles with Daniel Heath. His writing and production credits include Blue Jeans and Young and Beautiful for Lana Del Rey, as well as music for Maleficent and 50 Shades of Grey soundtracks. All four tracks were co-written with Stefan Skarbek, who worked closely with the legendary Amy Winehouse until her passing.
The EP is one of Cara’s most personal as she incorporates her strong Lana Del Ray influence into deep grooves, electronic elements and her signature slow, atmospheric sound. It features darkly shaded synths that cascade into lush walls of sound and her clean vocals resonate a bruised beauty. The SA Select Women’s Sevens team scored a historic 14-7 win over France in the final of the Hong Kong Women’s Sevens Invitational Cup in the Hong Kong Stadium on Friday. The Cup final win is a first ever a South African team at the famous venue, something coach Renfred Dazel was very pleased about.
“This was a very important and significant win for us. It is the first time that a South African team has won any title here and hopefully this is a good omen for the men come Sunday,” Dazel said.
He added: “I joked to Neil Powell (Springbok Sevens coach) that we have now warmed the pitch for them, so I hope they do well.” Continue reading
