The City of Cape Town anticipates that by the year 2032, Cape Town may need an additional 500 000 new dwelling units; retail space of 1 000 000 m²; office space of 3 500 000 m²; and industrial development comprising 4 500 000 m² to deal with the projected population growth. Rahul Dravid meets young children from Mankhurd slum in India and take part in an improvised street cricket session

MUMBAI, March 14, 2016 – Indian Cricket legend Rahul Dravid has taken time to spend with youngsters from the Laureus-supported Magic Bus project in the Mankhurd slum in Mumbai.

Dravid, who is the second highest run-maker in Test cricket history, surprised the young cricket fans as they prepared for an educational sports session. The former India captain took part in informal coaching before participating in a game of street cricket, offering hints and tips while inspiring the sports-mad youngsters.

Dravid also spent time with Nitin Bawaskar, the young man leading the session who is a role model for other youths in the community. He learnt with Magic Bus how to capture attention and deliver a message through fun and engaging sporting activities, especially in a community crazy about cricket. Continue reading

Springbok wing Bryan Habana will return to France to resume his club commitments with Toulon after the club released him to play for the Springbok Sevens in two rounds of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

Habana, holder of the Springbok record for the most Test tries, played on the World Series circuit for the first time in 12 years in the Las Vegas and Vancouver tournaments. The Blitzboks finished third in Las Vegas and were narrowly edged out by New Zealand in the Cup final in Vancouver on Monday morning (SA time).

The South Africans managed to close in on frontrunners, Fiji, and now trail by just one point on the HSBC World Series log. The team remains one of the favourites to win the overall title with four more rounds left to play.

The Community Chest Carnival is back, featuring food from around the world. Plus the new addition of gourmet food trucks to satisfy the taste buds of Cape Town’s foodie community.

To top this, the ever popular Vineyard Oval Market will be relocating for the four-day duration of the Carnival, bringing with them a selection of their regular stalls as well as their loyal customer base, according to market organiser Antonio Mullins.

“We are showing our commitment to Community Chest Carnival through the support from our regular vendors and encouraging our customers to follow us too,” he said.

John Robinson will be bringing his Charming Spitbraai truck, a regular at the Vineyard Oval Market. It’ll be his second year at the event. Also a regular at other Cape Town events, he serves his lamb spitbraai wraps and pita breads, chicken, lamb chops, boerewors, and crowd-pleasing burgers. Continue reading

At each stage of the race, an extraordinary #ConquerAsOne moment will be identified and recognised, where a team showed immense human spirit to overcome their own personal challenges to conquer that stage together.

During this year’s race, a panel of judges will select one #ConquerAsOne moment on each day of the race. The winning pair will be announced in the Absa Pride Hospitality area where they will receive a unique #ConquerAsOne jersey to wear proudly during the next day’s stage. Entertainment veteran Alistair Izobell is a household name, not only in Cape Town and South Africa, but on stages across the globe. His career spans some three decades and includes iconic roles in District Six, Kat and the Kings – both David Kramer / Taliep Petersen productions – as well as his own productions including, Kaapse Stoep Stories, Music Alla Kaap, Motown Memories, Radio Classics, Slick Swing, Now that’s Music and Remembering the Lux.
