This Sunday, 6 March 2016, close to 40 000 cyclists will saddle up to take part in the world’s most scenic and biggest timed cycle race.
The City of Cape Town is honoured to be home to the Cape Town Cycle Tour which continues to attract cyclists from all over the country and around the world.
On behalf of the City of Cape Town, I would like to wish all cyclists good luck for this year’s race.
You are the heartbeat of this event.
Your athletic ability, sheer determination, and the wonderful camaraderie are the biggest drawcards of this event. The Cape Town Cycle Tour is a key fixture in our annual events calendar and brings massive economic benefits.
Last year’s race injected R408 million into the regional economy and this had an immeasurable impact on the lives of 1 500 people who benefited from the various jobs that were created.
I would like to thank the organisers on behalf of these residents for the opportunity afforded to them.
Such events put Cape Town on the map by providing an outstanding visitor experience in a unique and beautiful setting.
I would also like to thank all sponsors, organisers and support services who ensure that this event is safe and enjoyable for all.
You are the people who make sure that this event continues to grow from strength to strength.
Once again, good luck to all of the cyclists. May our city’s beautiful scenery motivate you to the finish line.
