STATEMENT BY THE CITY’S EXECUTIVE MAYOR, PATRICIA DE LILLE
On behalf of the City of Cape Town, I would like to wish the more than 27 000 runners taking part in the world’s most scenic race, the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon, good luck.
To the many runners who will debut this wonderful event and to the thousands who take part each year, I send my best wishes to you all.
We often see how sporting activities are a great unifier, bringing people from all walks of life and all corners of the world together.
This event is one which truly demonstrates how we are all building an inclusive city.
The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon has for many years been uniting people in their love for running.
We have seen this event grow over time, not only in numbers but in its diversity.
It is heartening that the theme of this year’s marathon is ‘Run as One’.
May we all be mindful of what that means, and how we can build on this in our daily lives.
In as much as we are all different, there are many things, like running, which unite us.
To all the runners, may you have a good race and may our beautiful views keep you going as you push towards the finish line.
