GrandWest turns up the heat this winter with a scintillating show by some of the world’s best known R&B artists live at the Grand Arena on 24 July 2016. The one night only show, Legends of R&B, will feature the iconic R&B group, The Manhattans, with Gerald Alston and Grammy Award winning songstress Regina Belle.
“Legends of R&B is a rare treat for rhythm and blues music enthusiasts. We look forward to welcoming these celebrated artists to our stage for one of only four concerts to be performed during their South African tour,” says Elouise Matthys, the PR and Promotions Manager at GrandWest.
Since first emerging on the music scene in the 1960s, The Manhattans have sold over 40 million albums worldwide and boast a string of chart topping hits including classics such as “Kiss and Say Goodbye” and “Forever by Your Side”. Alston joined the group in 1970 and together they enjoyed success with their 1973 song “There`s No Me Without You”. The song quickly became a number one chart topper on both the US Billboard Pop and R&B charts. The group found further success in 1980 with the release of “Shining Star”, which reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and received a Grammy Award.Celebrated songstress Belle is known for her singles “Baby Come To Me” and “Make It Like It Was”. She is remembered most notably for her Grammy Award winning duet with Peabo Bryson “A Whole New World”, produced for Disney`s 1992 animated feature film Aladdin. Belle was introduced to The Manhattans by New York radio DJ Vaughn Harper and began working as their opening act. She recorded the duet “Where Did We Go Wrong” with the group. Belle recently released the most personal album of her career Lazy Afternoon which was recorded in Los Angeles with veteran producer George Duke. The album is a collection of beloved R&B rhythms, swinging jazz standards and golden classics.
