Emerging jazz band, Top Dog SA, will reveal its debut album, Griqua DNA, to Cape Town jazz enthusiasts at the Roxy Revue Bar, GrandWest on 5, 6 and 7 July 2016. Though Top Dog SA has performed at various venues across South Africa and featured at music festivals including the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, Jazz on The Rocks Festival, Safricon Jazz Fest in Kenya and Satchmo’s Jazz Fest in Nigeria, this is the band’s first show at GrandWest.
According to Top Dog SA’s saxophonist, Donveno Prins, the band will be doing two sets at each show to showcase its full repertoire and musical influences, which include afro jazz, fusion jazz and various other indigenous African rhythms. The shows will feature live performances of songs from the band’s album. There will be meet and greet sessions after each performance. Fans will also be able to purchase copies of Griqua DNA.
Top Dog SA comprises Prins, who most recently lead the band during the inaugural run of David Kramer’s Kanala show at The Fugard Theatre, is also the band’s leader, Camillo Lombard on keyboards, Charlton Daniels on bass, Mornay Hoffmeester on drums and Mark Williams on guitar.
Top Dog SA performs live at the Roxy Revue Bar at 20h00 on 5, 6 and 7 July 2016. Tickets are available at Computicket and cost R150 per person.
