The Momentum Cape Times Knysna Forest Marathon 2016 was held in perfect conditions on Saturday 9 July 2016.

Motlatsi Sesing won the Marathon in an impressive time of 2:38.35. The 36  year old athlete from Mohlakeng came in just ahead of local Knysna athlete, Sinesipho Didishe (2:40.44) and Zolile Mhlalo (2:45.45) from Port Elizabeth.

The ladies race was won by Thalia Charalambous in a time of 3:14.12, with Davera Mogson placing 2nd (3:18.34), and local Knysna athlete Lisl Grobler 3rd (3:24.16).

Said Thalia “I was very happy with my performance today, I took off around 10 minutes from my time last year. It was an ideal day for running, but there was still a lot of mud and little potholes and technical trail that came into it so you had to watch your step. The weather conditions were awesome and I had an amazing day out. Next up is the Greece marathon in November so I am training really hard for that.”The mens half marathon was won by Lloyd Bosman in a time of 1:07.10 with Andrea Steyn winning the ladies race in a time of 1:24.56.

Lloyd commented on his win, “”It was a nice day, weather was good this morning. It was a little slippery for the first few kilometres, but everything went according to plan. I am currently in my base training phase during the winter period for PetroSA so this was a good start for me. I currently hold the half marathon record time of 1:03, but am still happy with my time today”.

Race organiser and head of Knysna Marathon Club, Leon Brown, said “It was a very busy day with a massive turn out, but the smiles on the participants faces is why we do it. It was a perfect day for running, the best weather since I have been working on this event.

We collected a total of 6 tip-trucks with blankets and warm clothing, which will be distributed to disadvantaged communities directly after the race. A lot of people will sleep warmly tonight thanks to this event.”

Momentum Sponsorship Manager, Carel Bosman, concludes, “It’s the third year we’ve been involved and the festival allows us to get close to the people in the region. Families are close to our heart and this event really caters to them. The Momentum Cape Times Forest Marathon and fun run caters for people of all fitness levels.

There are loads activities for mom, dad and the kids at the finish so it’s not just about the run, it’s about being active and spending time with your family and friends. Seeing people being active and proactive about their health makes us very excited. We say that ‘health is your wealth’ and Momentum as a brand is about your financial wellbeing. We believe that your health plays a massive role in your financial wellbeing, so seeing people being healthy and active and proactive about their health is great.

It has been a privilege and hopefully a relationship that will be in place for years to come.”
