Miss South Africa Ntandoyenkosi Kunene’s Winter Drive has been hugely successful with the reigning beauty queen helping provide warm clothing to nearly 1 800 learners in four provinces.
Kunene launched her campaign in mid-June asking South Africans to donate beanies, scarves and gloves.
She explains: “We decided that the sets collected would be distributed at rural schools as the children often have to travel long distances to get to school and these sets would assist in making their journey to school warmer. The response was wonderful and I would like to thank everyone who helped. A small thing can make such a difference in a person’s life.”
Pupils at Sefahone Primary School at Ga-Raptsi Village in Limpopo; Mogopela Primary, Mogopela Village in North West; Ziwelile Primary, Mkhondo in Mpumalanga and Queen Mathathela, Kwa-Nongoma in Kwa Zulu Natal were the lucky recipients of Ntando’s Winter Drive! There was also more good news for Ziwelile Primary as Kunene was instrumental in getting a local resident, Lizo Nkosi from Mzamo Works, to sponsor the building of a new kitchen as the school previously had to use the administration office as a kitchen.
Nissan came on board as the vehicle sponsor to assist with deliveries in the provinces. Also donating of their time and services were Cell C, Sun International, Blue Lemon, Soviet, Drimac clothing and The Jozi Divas.
