Auditions for the 2016 GrandWest Open Mic Jazz singing competition will soon be drawing to a close. The last auditions will take place at Jackson Hall, GrandWest from 20h00 on Wednesday 31 August 2016 and 7 September 2016. Registration for the auditions starts at 19h00 and there is no cost to enter.
Staged annually by GrandWest and Heart FM, the GrandWest Open Mic Jazz singing competition has become a credible platform for showcasing and acknowledging up and coming jazz singing talent. It is open to all emerging jazz vocalists over the age of 18. Professional singers – those already deriving their primary income from performing – are not permitted to enter the competition. Auditions are limited to 30 entrants per night, and there is no cost to enter.
Participants will be accompanied by an accomplished band. The judges will focus on vocal technique, song interpretation, stage presence and audience response. The entrants are encouraged to bring their friends, family and fans to cheer and support them. With the chance to shine on stage comes the chance of winning spectacular prizes.
