We wish to bring to your attention that the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon will be taking place on the morning of Sunday the 18th September 2016. This email serves as notification to ensure all stakeholders have sufficient time to communicate and plan around one of Africa’s most ICONIC City Marathons.

We have worked closely with the Traffic Department of the City of Cape Town to ensure that delicate balance between the safety and convenience of both participants and the general public. As a result the areas surrounding the race route will be affected by road closures and traffic delays. In order to minimalize disruptions, a team of Traffic Officers, Marshalls and Security Officers will be on active duty to manage the days’ proceedings.

Certain road closures may impact on your activities during the course of the morning of the 18th September, please see attached route and road closure list. Please can you ensure that the necessary steps are taken to minimise any possible disruptions.The aim of the City, the Race Organisers and our Partners is to develop this race into the Premier City Marathon on the African continent – a marathon that in years to come will take its rightful place as one of the world’s iconic marathons. In doing so, we aim to promote Cape Town, the Western Cape and South Africa, with the aim to draw tourists to both the City and South Africa. The financial benefits to the City and the Western Cape are considerable.

The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon is Africa’s only internationally IAAF accredited road race, attracting runners from around South Africa and Internationally. The event is internationally certified as a CLIMATE NEUTRAL event.
The event also focusses on several pillars through the RUN4CHANGE initiative, which focusses on;
· Promoting CHARITIES through the raising of funds

· Promoting PEACE and SPORT

· Focusing on SUSTAINABILITY by hosting a certified climate neutral event

· Focusing on the DEVELOPMENT of athletes

· Focusing on HEALTH and WELLNESS
