There’s clearly an obsession with learning everything about beauty and the volume of information can be quite daunting sometimes. Some important tips can often get lost along the way… Are you using the right primer? Are you using bronzer correctly? Is powder really necessary?
Once you see which mistakes you have been making, you’ll swear to never make them again – after all, your beauty reputation is on the line!
Please continue to see the most common makeup mistakes, even if you’re a professional, you are bound to pick up a new trick or two.
Not cleaning your makeup brushes…
We’ve all been guilty of this from time to time and I must confess that the time-consuming brush-cleaning process is my least favourite part of the job. Dirty brushes can make you break out really badly as the bacteria builds up and it also affects your makeup application as the colours are all mixed together making it harder to achieve the desired look.
Applying bronzer to your entire face…
If you want to fake a sun-kissed glow, use a small amount of self-tanner on your face, not bronzer. Lightly then apply a subtly shimmery bronzer to the bridge of your nose, cheekbones, chin, and forehead to mimic a real tan. The aim is to look as naturally glowing as possible.
Matching foundation to the back of your hand…
This seems like a no-brainer, but this is one of the most common makeup mistakes made by women. Why would we test foundation on our hands when we’ll be wearing it on our faces? This really does not make sense. Your face and hand are often not the same colour as they don’t receive the same amount of sun exposure. Try the foundation on your jawline for a perfect colour match instead.
Sleeping with your makeup on…
Yes, you know that this is bad. After all, it’s probably why the beauty industry invented cleansing wipes! But it doesn’t just cause breakouts — falling asleep with a dirty face can make you look older sooner. Makeup settles in your pores and stretches them out, which is permanent over time. Enlarged pores = rough, aged skin.
Applying lip liner just to the edges of the lips…
Unless your desired look is a throwback to the 90’s, don’t do this – please! Even if you apply lipstick on top, your lip colour will fade throughout the day, leaving an unflattering ring around your mouth. Instead, either skip the lip liner entirely or apply it to the entire lip area for a durable, all-day pout.
Wearing waterproof mascara every day.
Unless you are a very sweaty individual or a synchronised swimmer, you shouldn’t wear a waterproof formula all-day every day. It’s very drying on the lashes and since these mascaras are hard to remove, you’ll probably rub your eyes a lot during the cleansing process and end up losing some lashes.
