Total South Africa partnered with South African National Parks to launch yet another SANParks Week. The launch took place at Addo Elephant National Park in the Eastern Cape on Monday 12 September 2016. The partnership spanning over 10 years continues to focus on delivering positive social impact for members of the community as custodians of the national parks.
The week-long campaign was officially launched by The Minister of Environmental Affairs Dr Edna Molewa under the established theme ‘Know Your National Parks’. The campaign allows locals with valid identity documents an opportunity to spend a day at a national park of their choice free of charge.
“Total South Africa remains as invested as always in sustainable development and we understand all too well, that our programmes, however grand or well-funded, do little without the active participation of the community,” said Ms Nyameka Makonya, Sustainable Development Manager at Total South Africa as she delivered her speech.
“We encourage all South Africans to take advantage of this initiative especially school groups so that the youth can learn about nature conservation and animals. They are the ones who matter. They are the ones who will continue our legacy and cultural Heritage,” she continued to say.
The launch included activities such as a choir competition with 4 regions competition; Cape Region, Northern Region, Kruger National Park Voices of the Wild and Frontier Region which won the competition.
