GrandWest has announced the names of the 24 jazz performers who will be going through to the quarter finals of the hotly contested 2016 GrandWest Open Mic Jazz singing competition taking place from 20h00 on 14 and 21 September 2016 at Jackson Hall.
Competing in the first quarter final event are Austin-Lee Jacobs, Celest Schoeman, Cordiel Witbooi, Ian Daniels, Keziah Judah, Leah Adams, Masixole Mabala, Naledi Masilo, Odwa Bongo, Ruby Truter, Vanna-Jane Felix and Virgil Williams. The quarter finalists taking to the stage in the second round are Caitlin Farmer, Christopher Joseph, David October, Jonathan Nathan, Kimberleigh van der Venter, Lesley-Rae Sonnenberg, Michaela Kleinsmith, Noluthando Mali, Petto Bock, Stephen Ehrenrelch, Vicky Rose and Ziqu Mthethwa.They were selected by the judging panel from the enthusiastic performers who have flocked to the auditions at Jackson Hall on Wednesday nights since 17 August 2015. A full house is expected for the quarter final events as the top 24 entrants compete for a place in the final stages.
They will perform on stage before a live audience, accompanied by a band. The judges will be focusing on vocal technique, song interpretation, stage presence and audience response. Only 12 will be selected to go through to the semi finals which will take place at the Market Hall, GrandWest on 27 September 2016.
The quarter final events are open to the public and friends and families of the performers are encouraged to be at Jackson Hall to cheer them on. The events will commence at 20h00 and there is no cost to attend.
