Two weeks ago 5FM announced the launch of a four-part mini documentary series entitled Making The Weekender5 showcasing four new DJs the Live Loud brand is bringing on-board.
Shooting is underway with the four DJs and guesses have been made as to who the four are. The first episode of 5FM TV presents Making the Weekender5 is due for upload on Wednesday 5th October with the Weekender5 going to air on their first ever 5FM radio shows on the weekend of the 14th October.
5FM’s Program Manager,Grant Nash, explains, “5FM has always been proud of attracting the best talent in the country. Talent that is relevant, youthful and exciting, who look at radio content differently and in our hugely competitive environment, can provide our listeners with the best in music entertainment. These four Weekender5 are no different and we cannot wait to showcase our new music show offerings to the 5FM community.”
The four new 5FM Weekender5 are:
Known for his impressive versatility and energetic stage presence Ph Madubela well known as DJ p.H is arguably one of the country’s finest entertainers. Boasting an exciting 9 years and counting DJ career, pH is fast becoming a household name in the South African music industry. pH has always been able to play outstanding music and deliver priceless unforgettable sets. Never shy to experiment outside of his comfort zone when required to and known as a party starter on the mic. Known for his ridiculously awesome ability to drop the right song at the right time, p.H has defiantly set himself apart from the rest. East London born DJ, started out as a house DJ and later took on hip hop as this was his first love. Years of hard work and determination and has seen him feature on countless line ups with some of the country’s greatest and a few international headliners.
Kid Fonque has become a vital part of South African electronic music and club culture over the last 20 years. Uniquely accomplished in both influence and scope, he is an over-achiever in every one of his roles: DJ, promoter and producer. Kid Fonque’s talent is the type that refuses to acknowledge boundaries of any kind – be they genres or borders. The respect he is paid by the industry is a result of his no compromise attitude to playing and making music. Rather than following trends, he has always done things his own way. Importantly, every record he reaches for bares all the hallmarks of the Kid Fonque sound – a golden thread that ties all his sets together somehow. Over the last couple years he’s played dates in Hong Kong, Dubai, the UK and Switzerland. He also represented South Africa’s dance music community alongside other industry leaders on a panel at Amsterdam Dance Event 2013 and in the same week shared the stage with Black Coffee for a Boiler Room set.
In 2014 Kid Fonque moved into the producer’s chair and released his critically acclaimed debut artist album Kid Fonque and Friends and a string of remixes. Two singles from the album “BE”, “Usangikhumbula” and a recent collaboration with D-Malice “All This Time” did serious damage in the charts – all claiming the number 1 spot on the YFM Urban Top 20. His recent studio output has paired him with luminaries like Clara Hill, Mark de Clive-Lowe, Nia Andrews, Jonny Miller, Okmalumkoolkat and Atjazz.
DJ Loyd is an entertainer personified. Bearing and array of skills such TV & Radio Presenting, Voice Over Artistry as well DJing (which is his claim to fame).
Not only is he an entertainer, but also an outright entrepreneur with a heart to solve social ills and enrich South African communities.
With a span of work ranging across media platforms, Loyd’s favourite, is hosting weekend radio at Good Hope FM. Catch him live every Saturday and Sunday on The DJ Loyd Show between 3 and 6PM
Kyle Cassim hails from Benoni. Kyle started playing at school discos and weddings at the age of 13. From the age of 13 to 18 he quickly became Benoni’s favourite mobile DJ playing at any event and spent time learning from his father who was a DJ during the 80’s.
Kyle matriculated at St. Dunstan’s in Benoni. He was accepted into the Law Faculty of the University of Pretoria where he studied a Bcom LLB. In his first year of studying, Cheeky Monkey (a popular student bar in Hatfield), needed a DJ to play on Wednesdays. Kyle seized the opportunity. Kyle’s unique sound, mixing and energy behind the decks soon attracted an ever increasing crowd that led to the “Kyle Cassim” evenings. This prompted the popular “Tys Nightclub” to offer Kyle a student’s night.
In the last 4 years Kyle has shared the stage with big international players namely; Morgan Page, Danny Avilla, Hannah Wants, EDX, Cosmic gate, Chuckie, Bass Kleph, Tony Cha Cha, Juicy M, Robin Schulz, Juliet Sikora, Josh Butler, Vanilla Ace, Shapeless. Kyle has also completed two European tours. In 2012 he opened for Franky Rizardo in Holland, including Jeff Doubleu and Skitzofrenix. In July 2016 Kyle performed at The Madison Rooftop and Proud Camden in London, Roots Festival in Holland and Ibiza Rocks in Ibiza.
Kyle is now a household name in South Africa, with frequent performances in Mozambique, Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria and Johannesburg. Kyle has performed at three Ultra Music Festivals, Space Ibiza (South African tour), Wonderland, Fun in the sun, has hosted his own floor at Electric Circus and Rage festival, been given his own nights at the most prestigious clubs in South Africa and Mozambique (Kyle Cassim & Friends, The House of Cassim).
