STATEMENT BY THE CITY’S EXECUTIVE MAYOR, PATRICIA DE LILLE
The City of Cape Town is known the world over for being a top international tourist destination and our popularity continues to grow.
Cape Town has claimed another top spot, having been voted number one for the Best Winter Vacations of 2016 by Condé Nast Traveler magazine.
Cape Town beat five other destinations, including Venice, Patagonia in Chile, and Swedish Lapland to take the leading spot for top warm- and cold-weather winter getaways.
Cape Town was selected as the number one favourite destination to visit in northern hemisphere’s winter season between December and March.
Condé Nast Traveler noted that Cape Town as a cosmopolitan city has prime weather conditions during this time, with our restaurant, hotel, and nightlife scene at its best, rivaling major European and American metropolises. These results confirm our standing as a leading tourist destination, with more and more people choosing Cape Town a holiday destination of choice.
This year Cape Town was also voted the best city in the world for the fourth consecutive year in the UK Telegraph Travel Awards and voted the number one food city in the world in the Condé Nast Reader’s Choice Awards.
We are delighted to know that our city’s attractiveness continues to grow as this means that we are seeing continued growth in the tourism sector which provides jobs for our people.
