HiiiJackD, a duo from Cape Town, have been announced winners of the Festive Lights Challenge on indi.com, a new talent discovery platform.
As part of their prize, HiiiJackD will perform on the Festive Lights Switch-On Event stage at the Grand Parade on Sunday December 4 as well as receive a R10,000 prize.
Consisting of Capetonians, Devon Saunders and Justin Vega, HiiJackD’d video of their song “Mother City” earned over 115 000 buzz points on indi.com, almost 17 000 more than the second placed artist Chumani Ngojo. The duo’s winning song “Mother City” was produced specifically for the Festive Lights Challenge. Over 65 artists from in and around Cape Town took part in the successful campaign.
Recently launched in South Africa, indi.com is the world’s largest talent discovery and brand channel digital platform and the Festive Lights Challenge was indi.com’s first large-scale challenge.
“In “Mother City”, we wanted to poke fun but also show our fondness for this amazing place we call home. We’re looking forward to showing what we’re made of on the Festive Lights stage,” say Devon and Justin.
Cape Town’s biggest public event, this year’s Festive lights Switch-On event will also include top artists such as AKA, Black Coffee and DJ Ready D, a hi tech stage on the Grand Parade and the switching on of the City’s festive lights by Cape Town Executive Mayor, Alderman Patricia de Lille.
The Festive Lights Switch-On event starts at 16:00 with MC’s Soli Philander and Shaleen Surtie Richards. Executive Mayor De Lille will lead the festive lights countdown amid an explosion of music, dance, lasers and staging effects, culminating later in the video mapping of the City Hall facade.
