After much deliberation, pioneer and “Game changer” Cassper Nyovest was voted SA’s Hottest MC 2016 in MTV Base’s (DStv Channel 322) annual poll of the nation’s Hip Hop elite. The man who filled up The Dome and Orlando Stadium held onto his title of SA’s Hottest MC for the second year in a row.
MTV Base Roundtable: SA’s Hottest MCs 2016” was revealed on MTV Base in two parts on Thursday 1 December, and on Friday 2 December at 17:05 CAT.
After a contentious debate, “DaHustler” Emtee took second place followed by SA’s Hip Hop golden boy, Nasty C in third place, leaving Kwaito star Kwesta in fourth place, and “Supermega” AKA rounding it off in fifth place. Also making this year’s hotlist were: the “King of Cotton”, Riky Rick (sixth place); Motswako goddess Fifi Cooper in seventh slot; new kid on the block A-Reece in eighth position; electro Zulu rapper OKMalumkoolkat and colourful Gigi Lamayne in tenth place.
The list was chosen by an MTV Base appointed panel of industry experts, mediated by Hip Hop head Proverb, and comprising producer Amu, UJFM 16BarsRELOADED host Spoken Priestess, DJ Slikour, and supremo Rashid Kay.
