The very successful Cape Town concert series Music Alla Kaap 2017 is back with this incredible, diverse, allstar line-up. Each artist was carefully handpicked to make sure Cape Town fans will not be disappointed. The show is produced and conceptualised by the incomparable Alistair Izobell who will also be performing on stage with the rest of the stars. In its fifth year, this music spectacular celebrates our beautiful, vibrant and diverse city with its rich tapestry of authentic music and sound. South African music icons and their contribution to our city are celebrated together with the young up and coming stars, plus one or two surprises….
Music Alla Kaap has become a must-see event on Cape Town’s social calendar, this year’s show promises to be all and more featuring international award winning artist, Judy Boucher, South African stars; Alistair Izobell, Emo Adams Garth Taylor, Candice Nicole Thornton, Nur Abrahams, Madeegha Anders and hosted by multi-talented Marc Lottering. Previous sold out shows included the late Zayn Adam and Percy Sledge, SA stars Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse, PJ Powers and many more.
Judy Boucher has had international success with many of her songs including her No 1 hit – Dreaming of a Little Island and Tears on my Pillow, can’t be with you Tonight, You caught my Eye and My Heart is Yearning. Judy holds the record for being the first female artist from the Caribbean to have the longest stay in the national charts and was voted as one of the top 25 most influential Vincentian songs in Jamaica.
Alistair Izobell has become widely regarded as one of Cape Town`s best champions of local music and entertainment and has created many opportunities for young artists. He is one of South Africa`s foremost artists, producers and musical directors, having started his career at age seven, and later went on to perform in David Kramer and Taliep Petersen`s Kat and the Kings, which earned him and the cast the Laurence Olivier Best Actor in a Musical award. His recent successes include; Kaapse Stoep Stories, Remembering the Lux, Kaapse Jol, and writing the theme song for the Kyknet soap opera Suidooster.Emo Adams proudly born in Mitchell’s Plain and is best known for his performances with David Kramer and Taliep Petersen. This multitalented artist has released music albums, started the group “Jag”, performed in a variety of TV series and is also the presenter of his own show “You Show met Emo” on KykNET. He entered the entertainment industry with the role of Broe’tjie in David Kramer and Taliep Petersen’s District 6 the musical and is now the only artist to have played all the characters in the show. He played the lead role of Kat and the Kings with long runs in Frankfurt, Vienna, Las Vegas and London.
Garth Taylor’s reputation as a live performer earned him the opportunity to perform with several stars including Simply Red, Shaggy, Jonathan Butler and the late Brenda Fassie. Garth has an impressive array of hits under his belt including “Only with You”, “Tonight”, the smash country hit duet “Islands in The Stream” and “If I Gave You My Soul” and “Home Again” from his last album “Stripped Down, Soul’d Out”. But it was his 1998 hit “Why”, off the “Without You” album, which put him on the map and is considered one of the classics in the South African songbook.
Candice Nicole Thornton, 24-year old singer and songwriter has shared the stage with many artists including internationals; Kirk Whalum and Phil Fearon, SA stars, Chad Saaiman, Alistair Izobell, Garth Taylor and many more. She studied music at the Cape Music institute and has been wowing her fans since with her performances at the Artscape Youth Jazz Festival in 2008 and winning the HeartFM Open Mic Jazz Competition in 2012, followed by her performing at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival in 2013, which opened the doors to her now successful career.
Nur Abrahams started singing professionally at the age of six and has been performing ever since. He has been part of successful music groups – Limited Edition and JAG. He received The Baxter Theatre’s Young Inspiring Artist of the Year Award in 2012 and has performed in a host of successful shows including: District 6 The Musical, Vocal Is Lekka, Radio Classics, Slick Swing, Scrooge, Music Alla Kaap (sharing the stage with the late Zayn Adam and Percy Sledge), Vocal Mania, Divos, Remembering the Lux, Kaapse Jol and I am Music.
Madeegha Anders started her professional career in 1979, working at one of the top hotels in Swaziland as a singer in the band “Seven Steps” with the late Taliep Petersen. She also played the lead female role in the musical “Carnival a la D6” in Swaziland during that time. Madeegha was lead female singer in the band “Sapphyre” also with the late Taliep Petersen for over ten years. In 1985/6 she played the lead female role in the hit Musical “D6”, performed at the Edinburgh festival in Scotland and sang in all the Mike McCullough productions for many years. Recently Madeegha was part of the cast of the very successful Alistair Izobell production “Kaapse Jol”.
Marc Lottering, iconic Capetonian is one of South Africa’s top comedians. He has been in the funny business for 16 years and continues to keep his audiences in stitches across the country. Marc has been the recipient of several prestigious awards. His self-scripted one-man shows, which often feature his unique and popular characters, continue to play to packed houses around the globe.
The show will be a spectacular celebration of LOVE and includes a 9-piece band headed up by one of Cape Town’s top music directors, Donveno Prins with Alistair Izobell supervising and directing.
