(Cape Town, February 2017) The Zando10s, South Africa’s biggest social sport and lifestyle event and winner of the 2016 Discovery Sport Industry Award for “Best Live Experience” in South Africa, took place on 3 and 4 February at Hamilton Rugby Club. The 9th consecutive event was a resounding success with over 300 teams participating in four different sporting codes including rugby, netball, beach volleyball and dodgeball.
Thousands of participants and spectators were treated to an action packed weekend of sport and entertainment where they rubbed shoulders with rugby icons from the 2007 Rugby World Cup wining squad including John Smit, Bryan Habana and Butch James both on and off the field. Other celebs and media personalities in attendance included: Jack Parow, Cameron van der Burgh, Rob van Vuuren, Katlego Maboe, Cindy Nell, Jade Hubner, Irma G, Zoe Brown, Richard Stirton and Leigh-Anne Williams to mention a few.
There was no shortage of action in the Red Heart Rugby Division with over 100 teams playing in seven different divisions. W.P. Barbarians walked away with the top honours in the League of Hearts Veteran’s Division while Durbell were winners in the Masters Division.The Sharp Invitational Legends Netball Team, featuring current Maties coach and retired SA netball legend Zanele Mdodana won the Brutal Fruit Premier Netball Division while Count Pushkin were crowned Beach Volleyball champs. The inaugural Zando10s Dodgeball tournament was a massive hit, attracting loads of attention and Nispe walked away with bragging rights as the first winners of the Cape Town tournament.
Other highlights of the weekend included a rugby development clinic hosted in partnership with the Laureus-funded Coolplay Trust, a sustainable rugby and netball programme that seeks to use sport as a catalyst for positive change in disadvantaged communities. The Sharp Invitational Legends participated in various training drills and life skills activities with 120 boys and girls from various communities across the Cape.
There was loads of exciting entertainment on offer with electrifying performances from some of SA’s most popular musicians including: crowd favourite “Kaptein” Kurt Darren, scrum half by day and rocker by night – Francois van Coke, The Kiffness, Rockerfellas, Me & Mr Brown, Rivertones, Ben Dey & The Concrete Lions and up-and-coming band Opposite The Other.

10 years after the inaugural event was launched back in 2008 – next year’s event will be a celebration of the event’s 10 year reunion and will be hosted on 2 & 3 February 2018.
