At 12H15 this afternoon a Western Cape Government Health Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicle was stoned on the corner of Eisleben and Landsdown Road in Nyanga. One of the bricks flung at the ambulance entered the cabin and hit the emergency medical practitioner in her back. The other crew member was left uninjured but traumatized. The crew have been removed from duty, received medical attention and were offered counseling and a case has been opened with the South African Police Service. Nyanga has been declared a red zone. No EMS vehicle will enter the Nyanga area without a police escort until 7AM tomorrow morning.
As part of Operation Khuseleka (Keep Safe) We appeal to communities to come forward and help identify these perpetrators. The lives of our emergency medical personnel are on the line and they are trying to provide live saving treatment. An attack on a paramedic is an attack on an entire community.
