The MyCiTi service will be free to all commuters – that is all residents and visitors to Cape Town – this Sunday, 19 March 2017.
‘This is a great opportunity for residents and tourists to get first-hand experience of how easy and convenient it is to use the MyCiTi service to go places around Cape Town,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport and Urban Development, Councillor Brett Herron.
The MyCiTi service currently covers 40 routes across the city, with 42 stations and more than 700 bus stops.
‘This free travel is available all day long on Sunday – from the morning when the service commences until the evening when the last buses depart. Commuters do not need a myconnect card to travel on the bus on this day. Furthermore, passengers can make as many trips as they wish, on any bus and on any route for as long as the service is operational,’ said Councillor Herron.
New passengers can get a free myconnect card at the Civic Centre and Table View stations. They should bring their identity document and R30 to get a myconnect card already loaded with 30 Mover points.
Coinciding with this free travel day is the exhibition of the six proposals that the City has received from the private sector for the development of the Foreshore Freeway Precinct in the Cape Town central business district.‘The exhibition is open to the public on Sunday 19 March 2017 from 08:30 to 16:00. I encourage residents to make use of the free MyCiTi service to visit the Civic Centre in Hertzog Boulevard to view these proposals and to tell us what they think,’ said Councillor Herron.
Furthermore, the Table Bay Nature Reserve will host an open weekend to coincide with the Milnerton Aquatic Club’s 24-hour endurance sailing challenge at the Rietvlei Water Area on 18 and 19 March 2017.
‘Spectators and visitors should take advantage of the opportunity to access the nature reserve free of charge and to travel for free on the MyCiTi service to get there,’ said Councillor Herron.
Commuters are encouraged to follow MyCiTi (@MyCiTibus) on social media channels for updates on all of the fun things happening on the day. Those interested in the free service can get more information on the MyCiTi website at www.myciti.org.za or by contacting the Transport Information Centre on 0800 65 64 63.
