STATEMENT BY THE CITY’S EXECUTIVE MAYOR, PATRICIA DE LILLE
The City of Cape Town is saddened by the loss of one of our city’s greatest jazz legends, Errol Dyers, who passed away this weekend.
Dyers was indeed a guitar maestro, who brought a unique Cape Town sound to jazz music, with this distinct talent earning him the status of being one of the country’s most renowned musicians.
His songs ‘Dindela’ and ‘Sugar Shake’, like many others, will forever be remembered as legendary contributions by Dyers, one of the pioneers of Cape jazz.
This is a huge loss for Cape Town and jazz music, but we must ensure that we keep his legacy alive for years to come through the timeless music he made.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Virginia, his family and friends, and the music fraternity. They are all in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
