The first of these – Diana and the Paparazzi – will be shown on Thursday, August 31 at 20:00. Twenty five years ago, Princess Diana was the most sought after and photographed woman on earth, as the world’s newspapers and magazines paid fortunes to get hold of circulation boosting pictures of her. Diana and the Paparazzi explores the Princess’s ‘love-hate’ relationship with the people who courted and hunted her. Twenty years on from her tragic death in a Paris car crash, those closest to Diana will reveal how she enjoyed using the press for her own ends and to make sure that her pictures told a story and cemented her brand as “The People’s Princess”. They include her brother, her personal bodyguard, her press spokesman, her favourite journalist and the photographers and paparazzi who put her on the front pages. Many stories about Diana are told exclusively and for the first time, including the truth behind some of the most iconic images of her.
The second special – to be aired on Friday, September 1 at 20:00 – is called Diana: The Day The World Cried and will be shown on the channel within 24 hoursof its UK premiere. Diana: The Day The World Cried, narrated by Kate Winslet, is the story of that day – her funeral – as told by people who were there, from some of the famous faces at Westminster Abbey to those behind the scenes such as the funeral’s chief architect Sir Malcolm Ross who had just six days to plan the whole event; chief pallbearer Captain Richard Williams who had the weight on the nation on his and his men’s shoulders and the former Royal Protection Officer who looked after Diana and the two Princes and travelled in the hearse with Diana’s coffin. Many of the interviewees are talking exclusively for the first time.
