Today, in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament, the Standing Committee on Human Settlements, unanimously adopted the Western Cape Housing Development Amendment Bill [B 2-2017].
The purpose of the Bill is to allow immovable assets to be acquired or disposed for housing development and to disestablish the Western Cape Housing Development Fund (WCHDF). The Bill will now be debated and considered for adoption in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament.
I am pleased with the adoption of the Bill as it will lead to more housing opportunities for residents in the Province.I call on the Premier, Helen Zille, to assent this Bill, as it demonstrates the DA-led Western Cape Government’s commitment to improving the lives of its residents.
Whilst I am pleased with today’s committee, it is shocking to note that ANC members did not attend nor vote on this important Bill. Once again, the ANC in the Western Cape have proven that they do not care for the livelihood of those in the Western Cape.
The DA remains committed to ensuring that residents have access to liveable, accessible, safe, and multi-opportunity settlements which residents can be proud of and enjoy.
