KRISTALVLAKTE on at the Fugard Theatre – 29th April to 7th May 2016
This incredible work has been commissioned (part of the Suidoosterfees 2016) to celebrate the life and work of the late Professor Jakes Gerwel ( the former chairman of Media24, former rector of the University of Western Cape and the director general of former President Nelson Mandela’s cabinet). Kristalvlakte will serve as a creative and literary monument honoring Jakes Gerwel’s memory.
From the shreds of the constant drug war, dealer Priscilla is trying to keep her family and life together. The community is bleeding due to the interference of political orders, gang bosses and religious leaders. Sometimes there are waves of peace, as in any good war. But war is like love – it will always find a way out. And while life goes on Priscilla’s drug dealings will survive in the backstreets of time.
From the talented pen of Amy Jephta, under mentorship of Tertius Kapp, Kristalvlakte was born. This topical theatre piece is an adaptation of Bertolt Brecht’s ‘Mother Courage und ihre Kinder’.

A musical celebration of a heart-rending part of our culture and history. A glimpse into a world that has for some been forgotten. “Home” is a musical fantasy conversation between disparate souls – family members, friends, strangers who lived in the former District Six. In one way or another we are all committed to this place – our homes – homes that the government would not allow us to live in. Was it perhaps the only time and place where the real “rainbow nation” was? “Sometimes a thought like that could cross your mind … ” Come, let’s go Home!
Home – Directed by – Alistair Izobell – Musical with Donveno Prince
